FAMILY LEARNING

When Mothers stayed home and Fathers worked, having regular dinners and dinner conversations were a part of the grooming of the next generation. Today, life is much more hectic and the thought of making conversation at any time may seem impossible - but if you want to understand how your children think you must give them practice on properly expressing their thoughts and forming arguments. Try starting with one of the topics below.

According to The Root ancestral search company; "noted African American historian and scholar John Hope Franklin, who wrote From Slavery to Freedom: A History of African Americans, first published in 1947 and now in its eighth edition; never believed he would witness an African American as a the presidential nominee of a major political party United States during his lifetime. Mr. Franklin wrote and researched his work in segregated libraries and archives where he could not use the rest room. John Hope Franklin was impressed by President Obama's ability to bring together people of different backgrounds and party affiliations; saying that Obama has shown an ability to bridge the divides in our society and unite people behind his agenda for change. Franklin believes "bridging divides" is necessary to heal this country's deep racial wounds, and he has spent a good portion of his lifetime trying to achieve that goal. He chaired President Clinton's 1997 national advisory board on race and is revered as a "moral leader" of the historical profession for his engagement in the pressing issues of the day, his unflagging advocacy of civil rights and his gracious and courtly demeanor."

How Dying Populations and Immigrant Invasions Imperil Our Country and Civilization (Chapter 7)

"To destroy a people, you must first sever their roots.
--Alexander Solzhenitzyn

How does one sever a people's roots?
Answer: Destroy its memory. Deny a people the knowledge of who they are and where they came from.

"If we forget what we did, we won't know who we are," said Ronald Reagan in his farewell address to the American people. "I am warning of the eradication of. ..the American memory, that could result, ultimately, in an erosion of the American spirit."

"Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past; destroy the record of a people's past, leave it in ignorance of who its ancestors were and what they did, and one can fill the empty vessels of their souls with a new history; dishonor or disgrace a nation's heroes, and you can demoralize its people.
