FAMILY LEARNING

Larry Higginbotom, Founder/CEO Osiris InstituteLarry Higginbottom founded Osiris Group in 2002 and its division Osiris Institute, LLC in 1998.  Osiris Group was founded to provide family stabilization to Black and Latino families of DSS, DMH and NHP- MASS Medicaid by using an approach that came from the perspective of cultural relevancy.

The Osiris Group was founded specifically to help resurrect the Black community by strengthening the Black family and offering culturally competent mental health practitioners who practice their craft from an Afro-centric paradigm to the Black community.  The Osiris Group believes that the psychological, emotional and spiritual needs can best be served by individuals who reflect the ethnicity of the clients they serve.  They do not believe in superimposing their ideologies and culture on others, but rather, helping them to make the correct choices within their cultural realm.

The practitioners of The Osiris Group believe that their focus should be on living in the present without allowing past human deficits to become permanent stumbling blocks.  They help Black men to reconnect to the mandate given to them by almighty God.  Leading the family institution requires the individual to seek wisdom and knowledge from his elders and from formalized institutions of education.  As the head of the family institution an individual must posses a love for learning and knowledge so that his family will prosper, and his children will view him as a lifetime learner.

Members of The Osiris Group help Black men to fully understand the significance of the term "Family Provider," and why women hold such men in high regard.  When The Osiris Group compares the "Family Provider" with men who seem to rely on their parents or public assistance it is easy for their clients to decide who they want to learn to be.  Members of The Osiris Group explain to Black men in great detail the need for consistency and what it takes to be a good provider.  As they work with these men they have found that this increases their self-image and self-worth.  The men acknowledge a sensational feeling of self-actualization as a result of being able to take care of their family on their own terms.
